Make Sure You Are Taking Proper Care Of Your Septic Tank

Blog

If you have a septic tank, you really need to think about how you use your septic tank if you want it to last for years to come without needing major repairs. Here are a few ways you can take care of your septic tank every day.

Don't Overload Your System

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you don't overload your septic system. You should not use two major sources of water at the same time. For example, you shouldn't run your washing machine and your dishwasher at the same time, nor should you take a shower at the same time you are running your washing machine.

Putting too much water into your septic tank all at once can overload your system. You can easily avoid this by not using two major sources of water at the same time.

Keep Food Out Of The Drains

You should also not send food down the drain. Food can clog up your drain and can clog up your septic tank. Put food scraps in the trash or in the compost pile. Don't put them down your drain; your septic tank is not a garbage disposal and is not made to break down food.

Watch The Liquids You Pour Down The Drain

Next, you need to pay attention to what you pour down your drain. The only thing that should go down your drains is water. You should do your best to keep all other liquids out of our drains.

You should not pour toxic cleaners down your drains. If you need to clean your drains, use natural cleaners. You should also keep oils and greases from cooking and cleaning products out of your drains. These types of liquids can create sludge inside of your drains, blocking your drains. These types of liquids can also prevent your septic system from breaking down the debris that goes through them.

Keep Everything Other Than Toilet Paper Out Of Your Toilet

Literally the only thing that you should flush down your toilet other than water and bodily waste is toilet paper. You should not flush down feminine hygiene products, diapers, tissues or wipes down the toilet.

Even if these products say that you can flush them down your toilet, you should avoid the temptation; they can still clog up your septic tank. Invest in a trash can with a lid for these types of personal items, and take your trash out on a daily basis.

Lay Off On The Detergent

Finally, lay off on the amount of detergent you use on your clothing. All that water from washing your clothes goes straight into your septic system. The chemicals in many detergents can kill the microorganisms that help your septic tank break down the items within it. Try to stick to all-natural detergents that do not use strong chemicals that will harm your septic tank.

If you want your septic tank to last for a long time, you need to make sure that your daily habits do not harm your septic tank. Implement one of the habits above per week, until you have changed all your daily household habits so that they keep your septic tank healthy and working well. Focusing On Sanitation

When I first opened up my own restaurant, I knew that I needed to focus on the details. In addition to creating a beautiful space with effective advertising and merchandising, I also worried about sanitation. I spent a lot of time walking my entire staff through proper sanitation procedures, and you wouldn't believe how much of a difference it made for my business. After a few perfect health inspection reports and glowing customer reviews, I could tell that my efforts were not in vain. My blog is designed to help small business owners to focus on sanitation, so that you can stay afloat in a competitive marketplace.
